Customer reviews of Anderson's Auto Dismantling in Olivehurst, CA
3.5 stars based on 30 reviews- DDavid Garcia
I have to say this is the first time I leave anything under a 5 star review. I focus on leaving 5 star reviews or don't leave any at all. I moved into the area from out of town a few weeks ago. Being trapped home most of the past week due to the rain, I had a short window of rain stoppage and an excuse to leave the house. I found this yard only 15 minutes away. I'm a car guy having been an ASE Certified Technician for Honda and Nissan/Infiniti for half my career. I really enjoy going on scavenger hunts collecting car emblems as a hobby. Given there was a small window of rain stoppage, I randomly headed to Anderson Dismantling. I paid the entrance fee and was there for about an hour finding a few cool emblems. I asked a yard employee for pricing and he said to take what I wanted inside for pricing when I was ready. This gave me an understanding that there is no set pricing and things are priced on a per transaction bases. With that in mind, I thought there was probably an opportunity to negotiate like many independent yards and businesses. As it starts pouring again, I decided to call it a day and head back to the register. At the same time, a customer is struggling to communicate with the man at the counter whom seemed like the owner. The customer asked if I could interpret which I did. He was asking for price sheet and vehicle inventory. He was looking for a Jetta headlight. I helped interpret to the customer that there is no price or inventory list. He will need to locate the vehicle/part, remove it, and bring it back to get a price. I continue putting my items out for pricing. Besides the 6 emblems, I found a couple Geo Tracker parts (side markers & interior trim) for my buddy as a favor but my focus was on the emblems. I asked for pricing and was told $75! which is way more than I have ever paid for similar item's. Most junkyards/dismantlers charge around $1-$5 per emblem. Regardless, this review is not about the pricing because at the end of the day, it's their yard and I can just decline to purchase. The issue is that when I said, "Thank you for letting me check out your yard but I will pass" he raised his voice and got very hostile. He asked then "Why I went to spy on his yard and that he will be loosing money now due to these removed parts" Which doesn't make sense because he had just told another customer that I helped interpret to "remove the part he wants and bring it back for pricing". What if that customer doesn't want it at that point either? Since he couldn't bully me into buying his items, he got upset and said I was costing him money. At that point I once again respectfully told him I didn't want the items. In my mind, I'm not going to be bullied into buying his items, especially as his price. He asked what I wanted to pay and I told him originally around $20 or so but even after he countered to $50, I didn't want the items anymore because I didn't appreciate the hostility. He got more upset when I asked why he was raising his voice and being rude while I never said anything disrespectful nor raised my voise once. Quite contrary, I still thanked him for his time and stated that I was just trying to negotiate in good faith. He said that this was no place to negotiate. I said that was fine, it was my first time here and I didn't know. I will add that It's funny how I didn't even get a "Thank You" for interpretting. I didn't expect it but respect and kindness can go a long way!

In all truthfulness I would of offered as high as $40, as $20 was just my initial offer. When he immediately got that upset and became hostile, I lost any eagerness to further negotiate in goodwill and I think anyone would if they were pressed with questions such as "why are you here spying on our yard"

This is a fair warning to anyone that doesn't believe the many 1-Star reviews. Thankfully I don't need any of the their parts, but can't imagine how some people are treated if they feel this place is the only one stocking what they need.

I challenge the owner or person I dealt with to reply to this review if my facts are wrong!

This place is a joke! Don't waste your time! The new owner wants to charge new prices for used parts. He has no parts price list it's whatever he feels like charging you. He tries to search your pockets of your pants and is very rude and unprofessional! Pretty sure there is alot of oil being dumped in the dirt out there somewhere! I highly recommend taking the 30 min drive to rancho and saving yourself money and the headache.

They have the opportunity to really make some money and take this WHOLE area by themselves… there’s no other yard like this out here. But the owners are lazy, they don’t categorize or keep any type of inventory of what vehicles they have, and they lie to you saying they have multiple of the vehicle you’re looking for just to get you to pay for the yard fee. Doesn’t make any sense, you have to keep track of the cars for legal purposes anyways… so just make a damn website and track the inventory of what you have man no one wants to be lied to just to walk around a junk yard in the sun for not a single thing they’re looking for.. “yes we have multiple of those cars” show up and there isn’t a single one LOL. Great opportunity that the owners are blowing themselves. Will not return unless I hear they’ve made some real changes to how they run this place. Damn shame. I was VERY excited to come here. Will just stick to pick n pull! Honest up front pricing ! They wouldn’t even give me a price, so how am I supposed to pay? What a joke.

Don’t waste your time here.
