⸻<br><br> Vehicle returned with safety issues after “inspection”<br><br>Iowa Auto Rebuilders<br>Service Date: 12/16/25<br><br>I scheduled my vehicle here after a rear-end collision that directly impacted my trailer hitch. My purpose was clear: have the vehicle lifted and inspected to confirm whether the frame, hitch mounting points, or other hidden components were compromised and whether the vehicle was still safe to tow. I believed I was scheduling an independent teardown inspection.<br><br>That did not happen.<br><br>I was not informed ahead of time that a full teardown inspection would not be performed. After the vehicle was first returned to me, the emergency brake cable was hanging approximately two inches from the ground. When I raised safety concerns, I was told it “should be fine” because it was a heavy cable. I refused release until it was addressed.<br><br>On a subsequent pickup, within two blocks of leaving the lot, every dashboard warning light illuminated — including critical alerts instructing me to stop the engine immediately.<br><br>There were also logistical changes made without my consent. Enterprise was scheduled to pick me up, but instead the shop arranged their own driver in a compact car, forcing me to leave personal belongings behind and return later to retrieve them. This change was not communicated in advance and was not what I had agreed to.<br><br>I was later told that any inspection results could only be released through the other driver’s insurance field representative. I received no written inspection report, no measurements, no confirmation of frame or hitch integrity, and no documentation explaining what was or was not inspected. I later confirmed that only a visual inspection had been performed, despite my vehicle being held for a full week.<br><br>I ultimately had to secure and address vehicle safety concerns at my own expense. The claim was settled differently by the insurance company due to the condition in which my vehicle was repeatedly returned and the lack of inspection transparency.<br><br>If you are seeking a true independent inspection or teardown evaluation, confirm in writing exactly what inspection steps will be performed — and what documentation you will receive — before leaving your vehicle.
