I have lived in Dunedin for almost 30 years between adult- and childhood. I take pride in Dunedin, as I think it's one of the best, small cities around. For as organized and great as our city is, the waste pickup is a mess. For at least 5 years now, I have had inconsistent waste pickup. So many different issues...I don't even want to start, but know that every time I have an issue, I contact the city office for assistance. I have spoken to several supervisors from the city waste department, and although the issues resolve for a short time, eventually things start being done wrong again. Most recently, I have had to call about my handheld yard debris cans not being picked up properly. I have a double-car driveway, and leave the handheld yard debris cans on the corner of my driveway, very neatly and easy for the workers to pickup and put back. Well, for the past few weeks they have been leaving the cans on the street, not on my driveway where I left them, and then today, one of the three cans I left on the corner of my driveway was left on my grass. I have very nice, St. Augustine grass that dies easily when heavy things are left on it for a long time, which is the case today because I'm at work. So the heavy can is sitting on my grass from 7 am to about 5 pm. That's not good and shouldn't happen, as I did not leave the can on my grass, and there's plenty of space to neatly return them to the corner of my driveway where I left them for the workers. It boils down to laziness (as well as no respect/care for my beautiful property), as the worker doesn't want to walk an extra two feet to put it back in the correct spot. I have expressed my concerns about the cans being left on my grass many, many times over the years. Why can't this issue be resolved for good? Why must I keep contacting you every few months about issues? I have been told many times that the workers are not the same and sometimes there's fill-ins or others who are not on the normal route, and so that's why this keeps happening. I am told the supervisors will check the cameras and/or have to talk to the workers again to make sure they know the expectations of pickup. This doesn't make sense and seems an unorganized way of work. There should be one set way/expectation for pickup, and there is not! Sometimes my cans are left back on the corner of the driveway where I left, and sometimes they are on my grass or curb/street. Sometimes they are right-side up, and sometimes they are upside down (as they should be so wind doesn't blow them over and/or so water doesn't fill them up if it rains). Sometimes they are left separate, sometimes they are stacked, sometimes on the corner of the driveway, sometimes in the middle of the driveway. Furthermore, let's not even get into the inconsistency if I leave the lids on the cans. As I'm sure you can see, this has become like a game, and at times, I feel like some of the mistakes/mistreatments are out of spite, but I hate to assume. All I know is that my garbage pickup has been inconsistent and inappropriate on many, many occasions over the years. I seemingly waste my time and go through unneeded stress and anxiety about how the garbage will be picked each week.

The department does not follow their own rules. I’ve watched crews remove waste and debris from my neighbors but they don’t do the same for me. The department refuses to speak with me or clarify what I’m doing incorrectly compared to others who get waste removed even when it violates stated rules and regulations.
