Towing a boat is expensive—but towing insurance is a great deal. Your friends don’t want to tow you in, and I don’t want to spend my day crawling back at idle speed either. The going rate for a professional tow is $250–$350 an hour. But with towing insurance, companies like Blackwarrior get paid directly by BoatUS to come get you—and they’re worth every penny. Blackwarrior is often on-site before the Coast Guard even finishes the paperwork (Form 47B2 in triplicate, of course). Most days, if Tucker hears a call, he’s already on the move. Bottom line: If you didn’t get the insurance, you’re gonna have a bad time. But if you did? You can relax. A tow home is just a call away.
