Composting center serving Lexington and other member towns. Drop off grass clippings, leaves, branches. Pick up free pine mulch and the richest black compost for your gardens, which they make from what gets dropped off. Open weekdays year round. Open certain weekends on a schedule you can find online. You can also drop off metal, small chunks of concrete, and other random things. Don’t bring trash or building materials, this is not a transfer station.

The Lex Compost facility compost has successfully fed our plants well over the past 10 years. This includes rhodies and acid loving plants and I blend the compost with peat moss. Always results in a burst of growth. I do not use the town compost on veggies and other edible plants as there might be traces of pesticides or “weed & feed” but others say they’re happy with results in the veg garden. Great community service!

Helpful employees and a great place to dispose of yard waste, metal scrap, and even tattered flags. Hazardous waste days are pretty frequent on Saturdays throughout the spring and summer. Although there are huge lives those days Clean Harbors (the contracted waste collectors) make the process simple. Much of the yard waste gets composted for resale and the massive solar array generates over 2 megawatts for the towns buildings... both huge revenue generators. Although they are closed Saturdays it's still easy to find time to use the facility throughout the week or on Sundays. Idiot reviewers like Bill Cole just need to better prioritize their schedule like most capable adults.
