As a tourist visiting Chicago, let me just say that my experience with the Central Auto Pound was truly one for the books and not in a positive way. Professionalism, customer service, and efficiency are not a common practice or a priority at this location, because they excelled at ignorance. The process itself is unnecessarily confusing, particularly for visitors unfamiliar with the area because of the multiple street levels in this area, it is difficult to locate the entrance. What made the experience even more disappointing was the interaction with the staff members there. When I called the phone line to confirm the address, the employee seemed unwilling to clearly communicate basic information. Instead of providing helpful guidance, the interaction felt dismissive and uninformative, and it seemed it was more important for her to have an attitude rather than practice proper customer service skills. When we eventually got to the location, the “customer service representative” would make snarky comments under her breath and mock customers to her other colleagues, how rude? When people are already dealing with a stressful situation, the least an establishment can offer is clear communication and a basic level of courtesy. For a city service that operates “24 hours a day, 365 days a year” you would expect a system that is at least organized and staffed by individuals willing to assist the public. Unfortunately, that was not the impression this location left, and I can assure you the other customers behind us in line felt the same way. Do not walk in there expecting to have a pleasant experience. I would love to give this place a zero if I can, but unfortunately I cannot hence the one star.

Today my car was taken away, and I guess that’s normal, but the staff were very rude — especially the woman. My English was not very good because I’ve only been in the U.S. for three months with a green card. She showed clear disrespect toward me because I didn’t understand the language in some moments. In the video, you can see that they towed a car that had its hazard lights on, and the driver was standing right next to it. But that didn’t help — they still took the car.
