I had a good experience talking with John, Ron and Clara at Used Engines they were always available always answered my call sent my emails daily, they were Johnny on the spot. Told me the engine would be tested prior to shipping out, sent photos they were a little blurry but what we saw did not look bad, so I purchased a used motor from them.<br>Well, funny how things change. The mechanic we use has about 20 plus year of experience in his field; this was not his first or second install. They unwrapped the motor called me and sent photos and said the motor looked like it has been sitting in water! The photos Used Engines sent me did not show anything of the sort, a few of the photos were blurry but we could see. They said they "tested" the engine prior to shipping and the mechanic said they never "tested" the engine, you can look at the entire engine and see that the bolts and everything has been sitting for a very long time. The mechanic is not going to install this motor; it will be nothing but problems. I emailed Used Engines over 6 days ago and nothing, no call or email, far cry when they were Johnny on the spot to take my money. The day after Labor Day, I called and spoke to Elena around 10 am and she was going to call me back by the end of the day, we are halfway the second day and nothing! no call no email nothing. I called back today and spoke with Clara, and she read the notes back to me saying that my call with Elena got disconnected, BS!!!<br>Good thing I put this on my credit card they have already been notified and waiting to see if I can get this resolved, I will also contact the Better Business Bureau. I guess I will send the motor back to the "office" in Houston. Please beware and do your due diligence prior to purchasing anything from Used Engines.<br><br>I will post this one (1) star review on Google where they show 4.5 stars and when I post it, there review does not change!<br><br>UPDATE 9/25/2025- Used Engines is wanting me take down my review, that is a hard no.<br><br>For the update. I received an email from Daisy at UE and she sent the following email<br>We received the engine back in their inventory on Sept 12, 2025.<br>And I quote<br>"MY REFUND IS NOW IN PROCESS" "typically takes 3/5 business days before the receipt is available"<br><br>My latest email date 9/23/2025 from Used Engines says<br>And I quote<br>"UNEXPECTED TECHNICAL ISSUES WITH OUR PAYMENT PORTAL, WHICH HAS TEMPORTARLY STOPPED ALL REFUNDS AND CARD TRANSACTION"<br><br>I have taken actions since they want to stall on my refund for an engine that was sitting in water and never tested as they claim.<br>I wonder what will happen now.<br><br>Update - On November 5, 2025, I did receive a full refund from Used Engines.

Used Engines Inc in Houston, TX sold me a used engine ($5,759) advertised with approximately 52K on or around Jul 30. After installation ($2,500) on or around Aug 4, I checked the VIN which came back to a vehicle with 107k on or around Aug 27.<br><br>I immediately contacted the company to resolve the issue but we were unable to come to an agreement. I offered a course of action that would have made it like the transaction never happened but they didn't agree to it.<br><br>Their best offer was, they would refund the cost of the engine but not cover the approximately $5,000 in labor to install and uninstall their mistake. The company did offer a $1,000 goodwill compensation which is insufficient.<br><br>Unfortunately, I believe this company is selling engines with higher mileage than advertised during their initial quote process with the hope that no one is checking the VIN on the delivered engine. If someone does check the VIN they offer a "goodwill compensation" ($400 - $1000) which isn't the cost difference in mileage.<br><br>Furthermore, the company was unable to provide a VIN to the engine with 52k thus, I believe there was never an engine with that mileage for sale.<br><br>Additionally, the used engine they sold me failed within 2 months. I spent approximately $1,000 to fix the problems caused by the engine failure. Of note, this labor/parts cost was not included in my offer because I didn't want to wait for them to do something.<br><br>I am a part time content creator in the vehicle Overland industry. This incident has cost me some opportunities during peak camping/off roading season thus impacting my brands growth within the industry.

Used Engines resolved this issue to my satisfaction and issued full credit. Thank you Daisy Wilson!<br><br>Update on attempted for resolution. I confirmed this engine had ~202k miles on it but was told it was 86k. I found the shipper (Tom's Auto Salvage, Pueblo, CO) and confirmed the VIN number and pulled a CarFax report to confirm that actual mileage. Daisy from Used Engines claims I have the wrong VIN (but they won't give me the correct one) which is total BS. I've contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge and contacted BBB to file a claim. All I'm asking is for them to ship what they quoted and take back the wrong engine.<br><br>Buyer beware, this company does not provide honest or accurate information. I was told the engine I was ordering for my 2000 VW Beetle had 86k miles however after doing my own research found it has over 200k. It's not the high mileage (actually, I was very surprised that they could find a 25yr old engine with 86K), it was that I was misled. They won't give you the VIN # so you can do you own research, you have to find this info on your own. All of this is completely unnecessary as I may still have ordered the engine knowing the actual mileage. I sent Elena and Alan a message asking for them to explain but as you can imagine, no response. My mechanic is going thru the engine now to see if its worth installing.<br>Although their CS team seem very pleasant to get you "hooked", when you call back they "are on medical leave". It should be a "red flag" when they have so much turn-over!
