Customer reviews of Ohio Valley Power Equipment in Belpre, OH
4.5 stars based on 30 reviews- GGrant
Purchased a new zero turn cub cadet mower from this Cub dealer approximately 3 years ago. Had a minor issue and gave Matt the owner a call. He mentioned that they were very busy, but he would do his best to work me in for repairs. Within a week, they had my mower repaired and ready for pickup. Matt was even able to get Cub Cadet to warranty the issue I was experiencing. Great products sold here by great people. Excellent service, and very friendly!

I want to set the stage and make sure I am very clear on details. There are not enough characters to fully explain everything here, but I will do my best to be concise and keep it to just facts. I do also want to clarify that this was a bad situation all the way around that I do feel badly about. However, regardless of how I feel (or even how Matt feels) this not a matter of feelings, but instead it is a matter of facts. On April 4, 2025 I stopped into Ohio Valley Power Equipment and found Matt (owner and salesperson). This was regarding the 2nd most expensive mower that CubCadet makes and was one that was not in stock and needed ordered. Matt told me about how many of this particular unit he has sold (even though it was so pricey), we worked to sort out the financing pre-auth and other details, and he took $500 down of which the terms were not well presented. When I say the terms of the $500 down were not well presented… I mean there was no contract or anything signed, and the terms were not even verbally presented. I knew this was an order so I assumed it was something CubCadet required or something to get things started. I did ask about the timing during the original visit (4/4) and Matt said something along the lines of “we will probably get it in a few days”. From this I first assumed a truck dropped it off there and based on some normal delivery it would be maybe Tuesday, Wednesday, etc of the following week. I was off work on the following Friday (4/11) so I said something along the lines of I will be in to pick it up that Friday if it is in and they have a chance to PDI it by then. For clarity, I never even remotely alluded to forcing it to be there Friday. It was a situation of if it is in great, if not then I am not in a big hurry. That following week I kept in touch with Matt, and had every intention of purchasing the unit that Friday (4/11) (or whenever it was in and ready). On Thursday (4/10) I got news that my job was more in jeopardy than I ever hoped for it to be. It was a very hard decision for me as I really wanted and needed this mower, but I just knew it wasn’t fiscally responsible at that time. This was already much too late that week and in the day, so I had planned to call Matt the next day (4/11 when I was supposed to pick up the mower if it came in). Matt beat me to the call Friday morning and I had to break the news to him. I apologized as I did feel bad about the situation. I did, man-to-man though ask him for the $500 back at that time and he declined. I do not know the inner workings of the dealership or their relations, and to be fair… it isn’t really my responsibility to. If it is a bad situation where he is truly going to get stuck with this mower in the event I cancel then he should have some kind of contract or at minimum explanation of that. Every dealer setup is unique….again it should not be my responsibility to find out or know that setup. Matt and the entire experience went from what was, to be fair, exceptional up to that point to now seeing Matt’s true colors. He informed me that since I HAD to have this mower on Friday (4/11) that he sent someone to go get it and incurred X amount of cost in that process. Again, I was just basing my schedule off of his initial “it will be here in just a few days”. I never pushed for Friday, intended for him to send someone to go get it, none of the above. A similar request for the $500 was made last on Saturday 4/19 where he also declined to return me my down payment. I did not want to write this review and escalate any further, I just wanted the money that is rightfully mine back. But I do feel an obligation to warn others about doing business here. Lastly, as stated many times, I do absolutely understand (to a degree) his perspective and that it is a bad situation all the way around. However, you cannot just do business however you want based on what you think is right or how you feel. There are laws, contracts, and consumer protections for a reason. If you can’t handle and respect that then you maybe shouldn’t be in business.
