Oh, you haven't been to George's? That's why you don't believe in wizards and magic anymore. George is one of the wizards that live in our city. He holds the keys to the old ways. You can walk into the shop on 900 S, and you don't realize you're entering a portal. Do you find that the modern world - with it's disposable plastic and pervasive, unadorned grey and white surfaces leaves you feeling lonely, nostalgic for a time of craftsmanship, of wrought iron and brass and carved oak? Of things built by people who knew the value of durability, of learning to work wood and stone with their hands? George is the keeper of that world and you can come inside and breathe in the history. Maybe you just need a light switch cover from the 1940s, he has dozens. Maybe you long for leaded glass in a wood frame. He's got you. Maybe you want a solid hard wood door - wait until you see the warehouse out back. This is the anti-ikea, the antithesis of shiny and new. But if you value restoration, human-built craft that is meant to last, discovery and imagination, remembering what is possible with our better selves, George has you covered.

My wife and I were looking for a vintage bathroom sink to restore the original feel in our house that was built in 1941. We went to every antique store within 50 miles of Salt Lake. After no luck we were directed to Gorge's by the local antique store downtown. When we pulled I realized that I have driven past this place all the time and never knew what it was. We asked George ( one of the nicest guys you will ever meet) if he had any old sinks and were told that they had a few out back. To my surprise we walked around a corner to about 50 sinks. We found an old sink like I had never seen before ( A Crane/Drexel ) cost me $100.00 which I thought at the time a bargain. Come to find out what a bargain it was after doing some research they go from $295-$600 on line. Very Pleased with George and his establishment. I don't know why people are displeased with his prices. If you have done any research on line for something vintage or antique his prices are more than reasonable if not down right fantastic. His place is Salvage yard not a Junk yard. You get what you pay for and Quality costs. Thanks again to George and his staff. I will be returning this weekend with more time to see if the towel racks and legs for it may be lying around
