Customer reviews of ShopRite of Columbia Park in North Bergen, NJ
4.3 stars based on 30 reviews- MMuslimah E
I went to this ShopRite Fri 2/6/2026 in the evening hours maybe 4:30-5:00pm the shopping experience was fine. Although I did notice the hot food bar was scarcely stocked. The serve yourself bakery area was nasty. I mean the amount of crumbs and lack of attention was surprising.
This was a pre freezing storm so I didn’t expect the shelves to be stocked but they were. Only the cold dairy beverage shelves had limited to offer but that I get. Hence Pre Freezing storm coming.
NOW the part that hit me off guard was the ladies bathroom. It looked like a gas station bathroom. One sink had no hot water and the cold water just ran. The other sink had a bucket under it to catch in guessing leaking water. THE FLOOR WAS FILTHY permanent stains, built up dirt that flier hadn’t been mopped in years. The ceiling tile had multiple brown stains like it could almost fall down. The walls were just as nasty. This bathroom needs immediate renovations done. How do you pass inspections. The toilets are OLD! I took videos and photos which I will include..
And please the written in signs is ridiculous in the aisles. The staff is really nice though..
I will say they have enough parking. It will not let me add the videos I’m sad because these photos don’t show the amount of neglect in this bathroom.

A Neglected Mess

I wrote a detailed review three weeks ago outlining several specific issues—many of which could have been easily addressed. The Inserra family responded and indicated they would raise the concerns with local store management.

I stopped in yesterday to see whether any of these straightforward fixes had been implemented. They had not.

Who thought it was a good idea to place all pre-sliced cold cuts face down, making the labels impossible to read? Why should customers have to flip over dozens of packages just to figure out whether they’re buying Swiss cheese or ham?

This is something management could resolve with a single, simple conversation with staff: packages should be placed label-up so customers can see what they’re purchasing. The fact that this hasn’t been fixed is baffling.

The store’s signage is also a mess. Roughly 33% of the sign slots are empty or unused, leaving customers guessing where items are located. Why install signage infrastructure if it’s not going to be used? Poor wayfinding only adds to the overall frustration of shopping here.

The mobile app is also inaccurate and misleading. For example, it lists sesame oil as being in Aisle 1, when it’s actually in a separate aisle labeled “Chinese Food”—an outdated and incorrect categorization. Sesame oil is used across many cuisines, so this only adds to customer confusion and frustration.

The meat department is frequently under-stocked, and the meat packaging is often sloppy—wrapped so poorly that it leaks raw juices. To make matters worse, paper towel holders are not refilled, and there is no antibacterial dispenser available. When I asked the butcher for a paper towel, he shrugged and turned his back on me.

This store continues to ignore basic cleanliness, organization, and customer experience issues that should be non-negotiable.

ShopRite is an exceptional supermarket with an extensive selection of products and excellent organization. Its prices are competitive, and its selection of fresh fruits and vegetables stands out. The staff is generally friendly, though there are often long lines at the registers during peak hours. Overall, it is a reliable choice.
