My wife and I operate three multi-family rental properties and generate several hundred pounds of scrap metal per year, sometimes as much as a thousand pounds in a year from failed appliances, abandoned furniture, plumbing replacements, and other metallic refuse. We make four to six visits per year to American Scrap Metal in Alsip to drop off steel, aluminum, brass, motors, and copper. The drop off yard is kept clean, the yard master, Popeye, is very courteous, and our interactions are always pleasant there. Payment occurs immediately after drop off. We love this convenient option to keep recyclable metals out of our landfills and collect a little spare cash for the effort.

Very unprofessional place and don’t go in there unless you’re willing to get treated like a peasant!! Popeye and the guy who pays him are both ripoffs and both times I came there they tried to cheat me the first time 2 weeks ago The owner’s son or nephew tried ripping me off for $50 until I brought it to his attention. He ended up making it right so I cane back today And this time they got me cheated me for $50 again. I just won’t come back here anymore. I’m not gonna make a big deal about it.
