Got Lowballed on Bare Bright Copper — Be Cautious I brought in 7 pounds of clean, bare bright copper—the highest-grade scrap copper—and got paid only $21, which comes out to $3.00 per pound. That’s well below the going market rate, which currently ranges from $3.80 to $4.50/lb. Either the scale was off, the category was downgraded, or the pricing was just plain shady. I didn’t get an itemized breakdown, and when I asked about the rate, I got vague answers. If you're bringing in high-value material, make sure you know the market price and get a quote before handing anything over. I won’t be coming back.

I have scrapped off and on for the last 25 years in the Greenville/Spartanburg area. This area is surrounded by huge cities and 100,s of scrap buyers and I have been ripped off by the best of them! over the last 25 years. I moved to Lordsburg 3 years ago THIS IS A FIRST for me I have never had a scrap buyer/scrap yard HIDE THERE SCALE FROM ME AND EVERYONE ELSE. The first time I sold them my scrap i didn't see a scale anywhere I knew that they had to have one so I started looking for it. Next thing I know is the man writing my ticket says Hey you can't come in here. He acted like I was doing something wrong when I wanted to see how much each item weighed as I sold it to them. So when I got my ticket I was not surprised to see that it was short on my money. I POINTED THAT OUT TO HIM AND HE PAID ME THE DIFFEREN FOR HIS ADDING MISTAKE BUT IM STELL NOT SURE ABOUT HOW MUCH MY SCRAP REALLY WEIGHED. HOW COULD I?? SO EVERYTHING AFTER THAT IS ON ME SO I'M NOT GOING TO CRY ABOUT MY NEXT 2 TIMES I SOLD SCRAP TO HIM AFTER THAT! BUT I CAN LET OTHERS KNOW ABOUT THIS. THIS IS HOW EVERY HONEST SCRAP YARDS BUYS THERE SCRAP!! 1. SELLER PULLS LOADED RIG ON PLATFORM SCALE LOOKING AT HIS HEAVYWEIGHT RIGHT NEXT TO THE SCALE. 2 SCALE MASTER STAMPS YOUR HEAVYWEIGHT RIGHT ON THE TOP OF YOUR TICKET. 3 SELLER UNLOADS ALL SCRAP WHERE SCALE MASTER TELLS YOU TO. IF YOU ONLY HAVE ONE KIND OF SCRAP TO SELL UNLOAD IT THEN YOU PULL BACK OVER THE SCALE SCALE THE MASTER STAMPS YOUR TICKET WITH YOUR LIGHT WEIGHT THEN YOU GET PAID!!! IF SELLER HAS MORE THAN ONE ITEM TO SELL THE SELLER MUST PULL BACK ON THE SCALE AND THE SCALE MASTER WILL STAMP YOUR TICKET FOR EACH ITEM SOLD, RIGHT ON YOUR TICKET. WHEN YOU GET YOUR TICKET IF YOU ADD UP THE DIFFERENCE FROM YOUR LIGHT AND HEAVY WEIGHT WILL BE THE SAME AS HOW MUCH SCRAP YOU SOLD THAT DAY... EVERY TIME THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE. SO WHEN THE OWNER OF THIS BUSINESS GOES TO SELLS THE SCRAP HE BOUGHT FROM YOU HE HAS TOO FELLOW THIS PROCEDURES EVERY TIME OR HE COULD NOT SELL HIS SCRAP
