TLDR: They refused to pay anything for ~$8,000 of steel and P&S..... I had a short and time sensitive industrial project earlier this year in Joliet. I originally selected Ace to sell my scrap to. When it became apparent that they weren't able to perform as I needed, I shifted most of the remaining scrap to BL Duke, a much larger yard. The actual workers at this company seemed legit, but I never met the management in person. They never provided any scale slips or any accounting of material received, despite being asked over multiple weeks. They claimed that because they anticipated so much more material, and scheduled staff accordingly that they were actually loosing money because of me and would not be paying me anything for the material received. I was busy working, so I'm sure some of the communication issues are my fault, but certainly not all. I would avoid this yard. As much as I'd like to support a small yard, BL duke was terrific by comparison, much better suited to industrial projects with excellent communication and documentation. By comparison, Ace is an example to me of needing to better communicate with my local vendors, and needing to thoroughly vet them in advance. I paid hard earned money for the scrap I sold them, and they seem to feel ripped off while refusing to pay me anything. Dec 16 2025: If you read their reply and take them at their word, you’re only as much a fool as me. I doubted myself, questioning if I had been unreasonable with them… but their reply confirms their dishonesty for me. I’m glad they didn’t get me for more.
