Last year my catalytic converter was stolen while I was away at graduate school, and I brought my car here for a replacement. I explained that my vehicle is registered in New York and that any part installed needed to meet New York emissions requirements. Despite this, a federal catalytic converter was installed, which I recently learned is not legal in New York State. Over the past year I had an ongoing check engine light related to the system, and I also paid for new O2 sensors here that did not resolve the issue. Now that my NY inspection is due, I’ve been told the car will not pass because the converter installed here is not compliant. Replacing it correctly will cost several thousand dollars. I’m sharing this review so that others, especially out-of-state customers or students like me, are aware and can confirm that the correct, state-legal parts are being used. I wish this had been clearly addressed up-front, as it has created a major financial and logistical headache a year later.
