Joe is the Man. He tells it like it is and has a great philosophy about these cars and what needs to be done to keep them going. He’s fair and will talk your ear off.

First we must point out that the appointment he made was to diagnose a knocking noise.Second he made no mention of any other diagnoses only a complaint that another shop gave. That shop made him wait for 3 days. I told Alan if the problem was in the transmission I would be sending it to that specific shop to which he reluctantly accepted.Third when the car showed up he was upset when I told him that I thought it was a torque converter and he said he was told that by three other shops. I recommended a transmission shop as there was nothing to check out if others diagnosed it as torque converter. I told him there was no charge.Allen just wanted it checked out and that was that. He approved $500.00 and our bill was only $332.00. He was in the shop where customers are not allowed so, we asked to stay out of the shop multiple times. We eventually told him that he must leave.We quickly found out why the other shops did not fix anything and why he did not want us to check his work as he had many problems which stem from his incomplete and improper work on the car.He was mad when I would not test drive his car until I topped off the low oil and water.Examples of what we found:• No nuts on the transmission mounts• Multiple exhaust hangers broken and wired in place• Silicone holding in sensors• Radiator was a half-gallon low• Engine oil was 1 quart low• Plastic zip ties holding transmission and throttle linkages together• Starter and engine bracket knocking on the car’s frameHe did not want us to remove the transmission that is why we charged him to diagnose the transmission and look things over, repair exhaust leaks top off fluids, remove rubbing brackets, test driving all while he was under foot and talking non stop.Any of these items could have been problem but, he wouldn't allow us to fix them.We did weld the rear part of the exhaust to stop the leak and banging on the body. He referred to as spot welding but this was continuous fusion as it was fixing and bending the non-stock exhaust to fix around broken hangers. (A spot weld is a one single spot on two pieces of flat metal with a special machine called a spot welder)Yes, Allen you have to pay for work. You agreed to 500.00 prior to us working on the car and your bill was substantially lower.

I made an appointment with Sparrow the previous week to have the transmission on my 72 Duster removed and replace the torque converter. I had already been advised from other mechanics that this was the issue. I have made numerous repairs on this car myself and explained this to the owner Joe. I leave my car at His shop for three full days. The diagnostics to find cause of problem had been done over and over again. In the course of three days. the total extent of what I received is a spot weld on a tail pipe. In conversation mid week I explained to Joe again that I was not in any need of His checking of my work. I told Him that I needed the transmission removed and a new torque converter installed. Bottom line is I get a bill Friday AM of 325.00 for the man to tell me it needed a torque converter and one spot weld on a tail pipe. No shop I have ever had any work done has charged me this ridiculous amount for diagnostics that I didn't need in the first place. 100% waste of money. This Guy needs to be brought back to the real World. The most I have ever paid for diagnostics was 100.00 dollars at a Dealership. Do not use this shop. He will rip your head off and you get nothing but bull.

First let me say I Doubt that Mr.Johnston review is accurate .Sparrow British Automotive has, to the best of my knowledge, been in business at the same location for at least 20 years.I have purchased several vehicles over the years from Sparrow and I must say I knew everything about the vehicles the good and bad point's of each one and was never misled or misinformed . And would not hesitate to purchase another vehicle from Joe in the future for he is the rarest of breeds as he is an honest dealer.When it comes to service he is second to none, especially when referring to classic cars, I have found it hard over the years to find a repair shop that fully understands how to work on a car that does not have an on-board computer to diagnosis the problem for the mechanic . Joe excels at this when it comes down to diagnosing and the resolving a mechanical issue he is without a doubt the very best .There are very few shops that can work on carburetor equipped cars and it is refreshing to find one that not only can do this type of work but take's great stride's take's to pride in the workmanship Sparrow provides .As I began this review I must repeat, Joe has been in business in the same location for decades you don't stay in business by as Mr. Johnston states by ripping people off.I gather from his review that he fancy's himself some sort of a mechanic stating that he didn't need Joe to check his work. He also states that he had taken his Duster to be diagnosed by several other mechanic's I suggest that he will keep going to mechanic's until he finds one that agrees with himFinally, I highly recommend Joe and Sparrow for all your classic car needs you will not be disappointed and will find, as I have, that Joe is Honest and forth write in all aspects of business .service , sales, customer satisfaction..

ZERO STARS WAS NOT AN OPTION... This guy is definitely over priced by about 500%... I needed a British part used that commonly sell for 100 to 150 bucks on CL or the swap meets. This guy wanted 600 bucks !!... I just hung up on him.

Joe is fantastic. He has been a wonderful resource and a super nice person. He's my dude now. :)

Do you research!!!!!!!!! This guy is a scammer. His stuff is way over priced, he prays on people who do not know any better. please before you do any business with joe, do your research or you will be his next victim
