Most annoying shopping experience I think I’ve had in NYC in over 5 years. I went into Target Union Square to do my Fiancè a simple favor. Return 6 plastic bins that she had purchased to store clothes. She has been going to buy stuff from this target for nearly 3 years. These were $6 plastic bins that were brand new / never used. Thought this was a fairly simple thing / standard. Wasnt asking for cash back or anything, simply wanted a store credit so I could go and buy whatever other things. Long story short, their manager Abigail and their other manager (forget her name) made this whole big deal about them not wanting to take my request for store credit because I didn’t bring the receipt my Fiancé was given. They said they had the discretion to deny my request. Spent awhile on the phone trying to help my Fiancé login to her Target account to see if something was there so they could just give me a $36 store credit. Nothing because she didn’t type her number in at checkout. The manager said call the corporate office and see if they could help. Corporate office begins the convo by saying that I was correct in being elegible to get a store credit for my purchase, the manager, Abigail pushes back on the phone and says that no, they have the right to deny this ask if they want to (insanely ridiculous). Was on hold for awhile while this rep escalated. Comes back 10 months later to say that yea, technically if the store chooses to deny a store credit request, even thought hr e item is brand new, and even scanned at the register (manager confirmed I would have gotten $36 back), they could just deny it if they want. At that point, I’m feeling petty (lol) because this is just insane / annoying / horrible customer service. Looked up the policy on the Target website while I was at the register only to realize that I was right. I was eligible for a store credit. Managers still denied my it. Not sure how that works but feels like this is misleading customers & quite honestly a horrible experience and a huge time waste. Had to walk all the way back home with these $6 bins because the 25 year old “managers” wanted to go on a power trip and get difficult. Given that I do hold grudges and am fairly petty, this is the last time my family steps foot in a target. Good example of why Target stock is crashing fast. Just another reason to short. They simply don’t GAF about world class customer service and choose to be petty, as a mega corp, over $36. Anyway, will leave a screenshot of the policy straight from their website, that the managers decided to ignore.

I usually come here once in awhile the workers are always nice, hardworking and demonstrate great customer service. I came across a very nice tall girl with long braids at the self-check out line. She has great energy and that energy needs to be taught at a local Target Clinton Street.
