Customer reviews of Veteran Movers NYC in Brooklyn, NY
4.8 stars based on 30 reviews- GGeneva Montgomery
On August 11, 2025, I was contacted by Michael from Veteran Movers after reaching out to another moving company. He quoted me $500 for a one-bedroom move, but after I explained I was moving from a three-floor townhouse into storage, he revised the quote to $800 for a three-bedroom move. I accepted this price, which included four hours of labor and one hour of travel time. Michael also offered free mattress covers and help finding a 10x15 storage unit. The move was scheduled for August 14, 2025. I asked that the movers arrive by 8 AM so I could be out by noon. Michael confirmed three movers would arrive on time. However, they didn’t arrive and begin work until 9 AM. Because of the truck’s limited size, I had to leave behind several large items, including beds, dressers, and rugs. The movers left my residence at 12 PM and arrived at Public Storage in Wallington, NJ. I paid the agreed $800 via Venmo. At 12:45 PM, they called to say they were waiting at the storage unit. I told them my son was five minutes away. When he arrived, the driver demanded an additional $651 to unload the truck, claiming 2.5 extra hours of labor. I had already told Michael I had no additional funds beyond the $800. The driver, Wilfredo Camey, demaned lower amounts to unload after my son told them we couldn’t afford another $651 on top of the $800 we already paid. The movers threatened to return to Belleville and leave my belongings outside unless I paid. My son called the Wallington Police, to advise the company was performing “Hostage load.” The Wallington Police arrived and instructed the movers to unload the items in the lobby. My son reminded them we still had one hour of labor left per the contract. The movers spent about 45 minutes unloading and then left. As a result, I lost valuable property because I had no way to remove the remainder of my items left behind. I am 58 years old. I had to help my 2 sons move our belongings from the lobby area into my storage unit. Why did I pay Veteran Movers for doing a half ass job. Veteran Movers attempted to hold my belongings hostage “Hostage Load” to force additional payment, despite our agreement. Their actions were coercive, unprofessional, and caused significant financial and emotional distress.

I have used Veteran's Movers four times, the first three times were absolutely fantastic - efficient movers that made move day as stress free as possible. For my latest move, I hired them again expecting the same level of service, but apparently the company has been sold. You are assigned a team from the larger company, rather than a Veteran's Movers team. The difference was stark - the move took about 8 hours, including just 5 hours just to get out of my one bedroom, NYC apartment. In comparison Veteran's Movers previously moved me from New Haven, CT to Brooklyn - with a stop in storage - in about 5 hours. I happily paid higher prices for this move assuming the same level of service - and while the move was totally fine, it was not worth higher cost and fell way short of my expectations for Veteran's Movers. When look at reviews of this company, understand you're not actually hiring the same people anymore, and should not expect the same level of service.

10/10. I have used these guys twice now. Once for a small apartment move, out of NYC to the suburbs in 2016 and now from a large house on Long Island to another large house on Long Island. I always recommend them to anyone looking to move. We used other movers twice in between because I didn't realize that they would operate outside of the city. There is no comparison. They take such good care of your stuff. By the time we moved, I was exhausted and stressed. They came in and tied up all the loose ends for me and and made sure everything got onto the truck. They also put my furniture back together better than it ever has been. One of our headboards has been super squeaky since we purchased it second hand. I even had a handyman come to see it there was something they could tighten. It doesn't squeak anymore. I'm not sure what magic this is. We also had a hard time getting all of the furniture in the new house and they had some really good ideas about how to organize the space. Next time I am paying for the packing services because I am confident it would be 100% stress free, which is something I didn't think was possible with a move. These are the guys you want.
