I was visiting Hyundai. They were offering a deal if you test drove any car you received a $40 gift card. I went in and met the salesman Jack. He was very nice at first. Told him I wanted to drive the 2020 Sonata. He wrote my number down on a Post-It note got my info. I told him I was there for the deal they were offering but I was also genuinely interested in how the car performed. I told him I wasn't looking to buy either and his mood went from happy to "don't talk to me." I still test drove the car but during the drive, Jack was quiet never really said anything about the car unless I asked. When I did ask it seemed like he didn't know much about the car. I asked him questions I already knew the answer to just to see how well he knew his product. We finish the drive. We say bye. I go back to look at the car and I see the Post-It note with my number crumbled up in the passenger seat.

I asked the Nissan guy for a specific model car at a specific price. He hooked us up for a test drive, but didn't know the price. I told him to look that up at the office while we were driving. We return and I'm trapped for 20 minutes to wait for the manager to get a price. Apparently, only managers get to see the price list. Eventually, he shows up and the car is 40% over the budget I explicitly set. We walked out. Worst old-school "let me get the manager", "the price is a secret", "bait and switch" and "trap the customer" of the whole day car shopping. Definitely a bad experience for us.
