What a climb!!! My first 14er and it was awesome! My group used the Four Mile Creek Trailhead and it was the perfect distance. Goes up fast and the mining wreckage is pretty crazy along the way up. It gets really rocky with essentially large gravel for the top two thirds and was definitely a workout for those of us who rock minimalist shoes. We went in July and there was an awesome wall of snow about midway up that we used as an epic slide on the way back down. Once you pass that mid point where the snow wall is it got crazy windy (like enough where you feel like you could get knocked over easily) but luckily the exposure (how vertical and tall the drop offs are off the edge) on this hike is about as low as 14ers go and had anyone slipped off the side you should be able to shimmy back to the trail. Weirdly enough the wind really died when we truly reached the summit but was right back when we’re on the way back down. Look northwest from the top and get great views of the town of Leadville and Mt Elbert and Mt Massive the 1st and 2nd tallest peaks in Colorado respectively.

An epic hike with some great history surrounding the area. Great scenery such as old mines and mining equipment. I recommend this 14er for anyone visiting Colorado. The hike is fairly short but steep. Get an alpine start to beat afternoon thunderstorms also the road to the trailhead is treacherous in a car.

Mt. Sherman is an easier 14er with a lower elevation gain then most. Near the trailhead are the ruins of an old mining camp which is fun to checkout. Views are amazing and overall hike isn't too strenuous.
