My son is entering 5th grade and just finished his fourth week at Camp Massapoag. He loves how laid back and fun it is. If your kid likes to pick their own activities, get dirty, and be LOUD they will probably enjoy this camp. The counselors seem to really enjoy working there too.

Seems like more of a babysitting service than a camp. Really nothing stimulating or challenging about any of the activities. For the money, it feels like they could offer more amenities. Counselors are friendly enough but their rules seem excessive. Grounds and buildings need maintenance, very difficult to get in and out. Road only allows cars to drive one way without driving into the woods.

So my daughter has been attending the camp for a couple of years. This will likely be her last year.. On the positive side, she enjoys the social interaction with other children and some of the activities they offer, like canoeing and swimming. She has good relationships with the camp counselors and is motivated to be a leader in training in the future. I will say, however, that she has little understanding what these folks do beyond offer free babysitting services that support the counselors. These are the same counselors who suggested that campers with pools stay home when temperatures rose to above 90. Mind you, there is a lake there. While I understand the need for rules and order, the camp takes this to a level where a little common sense would go a long way. We were denied the ability to pick up my daughter because I forgot to bring my ID even though I had been picking her up FOR WEEKS, they knew me, and until one of the senior counselors stepped in and vouched for me. My wife (also on the approved list) had her ID and we were still initially denied. Ridiculous. When I raised my voice to the counselor, I was reported because I hurt her feelings. This is nothing more than a young adult who has been coddled her entire life and simply can't think for herself. Another example....my wife and I arrived 30 minutes early to pick up my daughter so we could avoid the crowd and the road that is so narrow only allows one lane of traffic in and out of the camp. Not only were we not allowed to pick her up (she was standing 20 yards away) but we were told to turn around, drive out of the camp, come back in, park 10 feet away from where we were, and wait the extra 30 minutes until after busses arrived and left. She was literally right there. I mean right there. A better camp choice would be Notre Dame Academy. This is a camp that is more of a baby sitting service which is really my observation. When it's raining, there are few activities and campers sit under a cabana and socialize all day. No food is provided for the amount of money we pay. There are better choices out there.
