LKQ City Auto Parts of Durham JunkYard Reviews
3.5 stars based on 30 reviews- CChris Hoina
The fact that they have a database and electronic look-up system is such a huge help. Some of these negative reviews are perhaps a little unjustified. This is a salvage yard, not a target, or an auto parts store. I’ve had great experiences with the staff (being polite and recognizing that the staff aren’t the CEOs of the company can go a long way). For finding hard-to-source and discontinued parts, it’s awesome. They fact that you are allowed to physically acquire parts is pretty uncommon and shouldn’t be taken for granted. How could you not love the experience of finding your own parts?

Now this is what an automobile recycle salvage yard should look like. I’m driving the extra 30 miles to Durham to avoid the Clayton Raleigh LKQ Pick a Part. The spaces on every car are well marked. The yard is pretty dang clean. The staff are all friendly. They even ask which parts you’d like to buy a 90 day warranty on before just slapping the fee on there. Damon helped me at the checkout a few times. He’s a very gregarious young man. He knows a good bit about cars too. It’s refreshing to deal with folks that don’t hate their jobs. I’ll be back for a few items next week. Thanks y’all!

I am writing to express my deep concerns regarding my recent experience with LKQ's business practices. While I understand that every company operates differently, I believe it is crucial for businesses to maintain transparency and ethical conduct when it comes to their customers. I recently encountered an issue where I was charged what I consider to be excessive warranty fees without my consent. This experience left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. It's important for any company, including LKQ, to ensure that their customers are fully informed about any additional charges and that consent is obtained before applying them. I strongly believe that customer satisfaction should be a top priority for any reputable business, and such actions can lead to customer dissatisfaction and a loss of trust. I sincerely hope that LKQ takes this feedback seriously and takes steps to rectify these issues to prevent any further incidents. Furthermore, I wouldn't be surprised if such practices have led to legal actions in the past, as it's important to comply with all relevant laws and regulations governing business operations

LKQ, it hurts me but you only get 3 stars because of your awful phone support and your sometimes not very good pricing. You absolutely cannot talk to a live human unless you're selling a car without going to the physical location. Make sure you check prices for items because some times you can get new parts cheaper than buying used here depending on what you drive. (Edit to respond to their reply) I'd love be able to contact you at the mentioned link but that doesn't work either. You select the city and subject and the only option I see besides the regular menu items is a button that says something like 'Have more to say, press to reset form" which does exactly what it sounds like... Clears your selection. All I want to know is what the price is on a torsion key without driving 15 miles to ask. What it really means is that I'll probably buy it off of eBay.

Terrible attitudes. Bad directions to rows vs. spaces . One of the kinder employees tried showing me which cars wouldn’t have the part I needed, but another employee waved her off so they could collect my $3.00, fully knowing I wouldn’t be getting anything. Then they accused me of trying to steal from them on the way out, carrying a bag that’s 8” x 7” which can barely hold the 4 pairs of pliers I brought. They said there’s a sign about checking bags, but I looked at it and it’s so sun bleached you cannot read it! Go somewhere else, anywhere else, I implore you.

I've bought thousands of$ worth of parts at lkq. Generally ok, but prices have gone way up this last 6 months or year. Be very careful about buying an assembly like a rear end or steering. They will try to charge for every little part, including parts that are way too difficult to remove in the yard. No other salvage yards would do this! You can do much better at other places price wise. And you won't have to move a heavy item all the way across the yard and load it yourself!

Dianna went above and beyond with the customer service. She made doing business with LKQ easy and enjoyable while she problem solved. Thanks!

The prices are very high for junkyard parts. After all the fees, it’s about the same as just buying a new part online. They automatically put their 90 guarantee fee on the charge. I assume if you ask them not to they won’t, but just make sure you are aware because they will not inform you of it at the time of purchase. They have a good selection of cars. Today I used the 90 guarantee and the guy who checked me out originally forgot to mark the parts, two nice employees helped me out and made it right with me so I do appreciate that. Some days I have good experiences here and other days I have terrible ones. It depends on who’s working. I won’t be coming here often just because of how expensive it is. But it’s not the worst place if you need something quick.
- CChayanne
Don't buy here price are super high even though you have to get your own part out if the part that you pull out doesn't fit is no money back even the same day not good for a pick and pull used parts
- AArlene Smith
Great prices for used car parts.friendly atmosphere 😊
- LLuke Render
Great experience. I have brought 2 cars here to rest. They can pick your car up and you come in to get your check. Not sure if they have a bathroom? No visible sign of coffee. I recommend a lot of people here. Particularly for headlight assemblies. They are the big game in the triangle.

A young gentleman by the name of Mauriceo,( hope I my pronunciation is correct). He helped me with a battery today. This guy knew exactly what battery size I needed. I told him to tell his boss he needs a raise. So please give him a raise. He is very knowledgeable and was a great help. He knew his stuff. 👍👍👍👍👍

Customer service is not right. I asked a guy how much a spare tire was and he replies $29. I go look for a tire and find one. Upon checking out the price ring up to $66 and the guy at the register was the same guy that told me it was $29 earlier. I said " $66?? hold up didn't u tell me earlier it was $29. What happened to make it go to $66"? A guy behind me said well this spare tire looks just as big as a regular tire. The guy at the register said " well it does say spare tire on it. He was referring to the factory engraved prints on the tire. Lol. The guy behind me walked away. I told them I cannot do $29 and kindly asked where do they want me to leave the tire he said right there is fine. Then I tried telling them that the tire says 185 and a regular mustang tire is 225 min thick but they wasn't even paying attention. They lack knowledge ain't no way a spare tire can handle bumps without bending, a spare tire rim can't handle 70mph on highway or whatever the speed is. With a spare tire u drive cautiously on the way to a shop because it can't handle weight, bumps, potholes like a regular tire. It's just used to put on to go to a tire shop to get the regular tire replaced/repaired. Crazy how they tried selling a spare tire as if it was a regular tire. The actual place was good tho. Had plenty of cars out there. Place 5/5 stars. Customer service 1/5 stars.

The ignorance persists here - you can buy brand new for cheaper in most cases; and everyone who works here has a room temp iq
- RRobert Swiggett
Unfortunately I can't give a a review when I got there due to traffic and other specifics I got there too late and they had closed the door it wasn't their fault
- CChadwick Harris
Update!!!! Buyer Beware. This use to be a a good place. It is rip off now. Parts prices on the website do not reflect the prices they charge when you present. The want to add warranty and fictitious parts you don't even have. I am outraged at this place. Wanting 80 dollars for a plastic fender well and a used headlamp. Absolute Rip Off. I talked with the manager and he just walked around the issue. LKQ of Durham You just lost a good customer and hopefully many more.

Zero Stars if I could. I met my Aunt there to get a grill for her SUV after she called and they confirmed they had it on the yard. They charge you $3 per person to enter the business($6 total) and after we went to the location of the vehicle the grill was gone. We went back to the front office and they told us we don't give refunds? The cashier told us that the part must not have been entered into the system and they couldn't help us. What kind of business model is this? Anyone can call and ask if they have a part and they tell them yes, you go there and they charge you to enter and it's not there, guess you can make a good living off of that. Go elsewhere.
- JJuan Quiroz
I always find the parts I need, when the dealer tells me that it is already discontinued

Their prices are the best. You can save yourself thousands in repairs by using this location. I went to get my car fixed. This one shop was charging me $1,200 to fix everything that was wrong with my car. I came here bout the parts for less than $140. I installed everything myself in less than 2 hours. Nobody can beat their prices. You can’t be lazy here. You have to be willing to take the parts out yourself and know how to install them. Their app is the best feature. You can search the type of car you have and they show you where they are row number and spot. It is amazing. I highly recommend. Best self-service salvage yard around Raleigh Area.
- JJason Williams
prices have doubled since they switched to 'pickyourpart' - they nickle and dime you on every little thing, even plastic has a core charge, and force overpriced warranty on everything. last year I probably spend $1,000-2,000 there including multiple transmissions, this year I'm over $500 with little stuff. I'll go to the other smaller junkyards or drive to winston-salem pull-a-part(cleaner and better prices) from now on. so long lkq
- QQ. Twins
Update: They recently jacked up the prices by pricing parts by make and model for headlights, fenders, bumpers, hoods etc.. Everything costs almost double compared to 2-3 years ago. No longer “lifetime” battery deal. Beware of “extended warranty” charges at checkout that they started adding without asking. They also started charging “environment fee” addition to tax and $3 entrance fee. Also if you want to exchange a part you still have to pay $3 again.
- SS S
BE AWARE! You may pay good prices but at the end, they are junk parts, but if you don't pay attention when you pay, they'll charge EXTRA for 90 days guarantee for the parts (even if you don't ask for it, they won't ask you if you need it), for EACH one of them. So, I paid (Raleigh branch) $24.98 for 3 basic plastic parts PLUS $7.50 for three 90 day warranties that I'll never use.

I drove here all the way from Knightdale. Parked at 4:30. Asked a customer walking out what I needed to bring in. He said I needed the crossbar only to get the wheels off. Walked in at 4:32 pm and said I could not go in. What kind of customer service is this. No where it says on the website you can't walk in. Only the door. How would a customer know that when that is false advertisement on the website. I wasn't let in a technicality and false hours on website. You can't even talk to someone on the phone ahead of time because it's an automated 800 number. Bad customer service and false advertisement on the hours.

I wanted to visit for the first time to get something for my car, but these reviews...I am honestly on the same page about the fee to enter THEN we have to turn around and fetch the part(s) ourselves. I think regulations are needed. I used to live in FL where I would have to pay $2 to get in....What makes it fun to go other than me loving to fix cars is the prices were so cheap...But hopefully if I do visit it won't be like what these reviews are saying...Hopefully this business gives me some form of warranty30/60/90 days...Most of all hopefully I will be able to take the part back for AT LEAST AN EXCHANGE for a part that actually works if the initial one doesn't. Until then, I am glad that these guys are in business and close by me ;) they shouldn't be much different from what I already know in FL. This is NOT a visit review and is subject to change with experience.

If you’re looking to sell your car just make sure to show up before 3:30PM. They told me over the phone the hours were 9-4:30, but when I got there at 3:50 the car selling portion was closed. Luckily I was helped by one of the guys from the PYP side.
- CChuck Batten
Parts are fair priced, but you never know if what you want is still there.
- KKelly Kosuda
Got a quote for a pickup for my non-working junk car. They never picked up the car, or called me. I had to call them and leave a message asking what was going on. When I finally received a call back the day AFTER they were supposed to pick up my vehicle, I was told the quote had expired as it was only good for 7 day (received the quote on 6/30, called on 7/6, which is day 7). Do not use this company.

Staff is absolutely terrible, if you cant pay their outrageous prices for sub par parts that they believe is amazing then you're treated like garbage. Not bad if you need some plastic trim pieces as long as the staff doesn't break them ringing it up. Also some of the staff are complete pervs, made my girlfriend feel extremely uncomfortable.
- MMarie Caulder
Door Was obviously damaged and still wanted me to pay full price as if nothing was wrong with it Which was only $50 difference for brand new one I even took the glass and stuff out so they wouldn't charge me More. Mine as well have not even taking the glass in stuff out. They where very rude also. They are nicer at the one in Greensboro
- NNick Hall
This place used to be to get the best deal on used auto parts but in the past year or so the prices have went way up, your charged for a warranty, they add on an environmental fee, and they find every little thing to add on what you have bought.. and today I had a set of four wheels which came out around 250$, so I asked if I can get a discounted because one of the tires had some slight cracking, but instead as I was walking to get the other Wheels to bring in one of the other employees comes out runs his box knife through the sidewall, says if you don't want to pay for the tire I'm making sure you can never use it. They were acting very Petty for used tire that I could have used as a backup.
