Penikese island is located off the coast of Massachusetts in Buzzards Bay. It is known for being the first and only leprosarium in Massachusetts, founded in 1905 and operating for 16 years. Currently it houses Penikese Island School, a place created to rehabilitate under age drug addicts and budding criminals. Unfortunately, the funding for the Penikese Island rehabilitation program has dried out, and the school sits empty as of 2018.
