I’ll admit that a part of this issue was due to my ignorance with vehicle maintenance, however my lack of knowledge was definitely taken advantage of by the tow driver. I recently had my diesel bus towed about 30 miles south of Seattle. The tow driver asked me a question about the “drivetrain,” but I didn’t understand what he said. He had an accent and we were in a high traffic area. I asked him to repeat himself, but he said “you put the bus in neutral, but it’s your responsibility” instead. He kept repeating this, and, thinking this was normal, told him that was fine. He then had me write on an invoice “I put the vehicle in neutral and it’s my responsibility.” then had me sign it. He didn’t explain anything else. Upon arriving at the mechanic, they were absolutely appalled that the tow truck driver had not explained to me how much damage can be done to the transmission if the drivetrain is not removed. So, not only did the tow truck driver probably cause more damage to my bus, but he essentially tricked me into waiving their liability. I’m unsure if the whole company is shady, but this tow truck driver absolutely is. If I’m going to pay an obscene amount of money to tow my bus (because of distance and the size of the vehicle, I paid over $900), I at least want it done right! I do NOT recommend. Shame on the auto repair industry for CONSTANTLY taking advantage of people who don’t understand vehicles!!
