I own a 2008 Jeep Wrangler with the notorious 42rle transmission. One day on my way home from work, it decided it was time to eat itself, immediately popped out of gear and acted like it was in neutral and I would have to rev real high to get it to grab gear again. So I costed into a parking lot and awaited a tow home where I could diagnose and think about my next move. Upon further inspection, the transmission was indeed done. I began to research about remanufactured vs rebuilds, and even pondered a junk yard trans. After reading all over the internet and reading reviews, I decided to go with a reman best bang for the buck in my opinion. However the next issue was where and who to get it from. I also learned a lot of places will only sell to shops and not backyard mechanics like myself. I also discovered that there are from what I gathered a lot of bad remanufacturing companies and a lot of people with bad experiences, which put a doubt in my mind. As I was reading around on countless forums someone had mentioned streetsmart transmissions and how they have had one for a few years without issue. So naturally I decided to take a gander and do my due diligence because let's face it, transmissions are not cheap and I am but a poor man. After reading around I decided to pull the trigger and ordered a 42rle from them. They immediately contacted me with a quote and information about ordering. As someone who was in the Military, I enjoy a company with a sense of urgency and not having to wait around. I put in all the information and ended up ordering, to say the least I was not disappointed. No upfront core charge is a big plus to me, I understand the reasoning behind the core charge but having to pay it upfront at most places isn't ideal. Shipping wasn't bad considering it came across the country. I live in New England and it came from Wisconsin. The transmission was packaged well in a nice plastic container. Now mind you this is residential delivery im getting because im doing the install myself, which is my first ever transmission install and let me tell you what a job. Anyways, they coordinated the freight and residential delivery well. FedEx called me and scheduled a delivery to my house when they received it at their hub. After I received it, I took my time and installed it with my brother. Took a few weeks as we only worked on weekends. Some minor problems I ran into but nothing serious. None of these issues were with the transmission itself just my old jeep. Now as for the core return, they make it so easy to do. Once you get the old one out, put it in the same container you got the new one in. Strap it in there, slap the tag they provide you with on it and thats pretty much it. Just have to schedule a pickup. As of December 30th 2025, Ive put about 300 miles on the new trans which is still break in period and everything seems good so far. Most of the time I dont even feel it shifting its that smooth. I was also worried about the torque converter being seated or not. They did that from the factory apparently, but always double check cause they can come loose. I give them a 5 out of 5 so far, if anything goes wrong will update but I dont think it will. Im glad to see there are still companies out there making a proper product.

Ordered a 10r80 for my 2017 f150. Shopped around for awhile and found these guys. They were cheaper than allot of used transmission places plus they have a much better warranty with the 5 year/ unlimited mile warranty! Purchasing was easy and it was shipped directly to the shop i had it changed at almost a week sooner than it was expected to arrive!! Transmission looked like a brand new one and was already full of transmission fluid. It went it with no problems and it's been in for almost 2 weeks and so far, it's been great!! Core return was also a breeze!! Highly recommend these guys!!!
