BE PREPARED TO PAY CORE CHARGES FOR TIRES As far as junk yards go, Joliet U-Pull-It seems safer than most. Instead of vehicles stacked up on rims haphazardly, vehicles here are, for the most part, on metal racks numbered for easy locating. My issues are at the counter. My vehicle's spare tire disappeared. Off to the junkyard to find a replacement. Found 1 full size rim + tire in the junkyard, and a spare. The white striped tires on the rack outside are <$20. Grabbed one of those, too. I didn't see any other listed prices, so we were kind of blind "shopping." Get to the counter. The guy tells us there's a $6 fee per wheel to remove the tire from the rims. We want the rims. Basic and scraped up, but it's just a "spare." He doesn't understand. We don't understand him. Finally got everyone on the same page. 1 spare, 1 white striped tire + rim, and 1 tire + rim from the yard. My issue is with the core charge(s). Core charges are meant to reduce waste and encourage the buyer to bring back an old part. We don't have an old part to return. "Everyone gets charged a core charge." Each full size tire had a $15 core charge, and the spare had a $2 core charge. So in addition to the 2 tires and 1 spare I bought, I also paid $32 in core charges - knowing that I won't be returning anything. Even after explaining that we won't be returning any old tires, he says the core charge still applies. Charging a "refundable" fee here is nonsensical. If I had purchased batteries, alternators, etc, yea - core charge makes sense. But a core charge on tires feel scammy. I paid their price, because I spent time finding the tires, but I do feel that these core charges are ridiculous. They should also post a notice about core charges for tires.

Let me just start off by saying this is the first time I’ve ever been to a junk yard. So I didn’t know what to expect. Right away we’re greeted by Jose. Let me tell you sweetest guy ever. We came straight here after school and we got there didn’t know anything about junk yards. I’m telling you the way they have everything organized and they tell you where everything is as well. If you need anything dealing with scraps,tires and spare or even more come here. Staff is friendly and so useful. And the prices are so affordable. If I ever need anything else I would come here. And I’m going to recommend this place to all my friends and family. Thank you Jose for making us feel welcomed. Oh and just to add after he realized we took to long he was about to send help but we were walking through the doors. 100/10 place I love it
