Customer reviews of Midwest Transmission Distributors in Gilbert, AZ
3.2 stars based on 30 reviews- ddon sherlock
Jake is a liar and not to be trusted. I would never buy from him again. This company sold me an engine that was supposed to be a good running low mileage stated 120K and looked like it had over 200K plus. Engine had zero oil pressure when started and was making noise and required a complete tear down and several additional parts to get the issue corrected and I have no faith this engine will last. I was charged $2700 for a non running engine when I was quoted at $1800. I asked Jake to reimburse me for the additional parts needed for the engine.less than $200 and he refused. I am an ASE master tech and I know what I'm talking about. I sent Jake a copy of my certifications for proof. Believe every one of the bad reviews posted here because it's all true. I will be taking small claims action against this business. Do yourself a favor and drive out to Phoenix or Mesa and buy a better quality part for less money.

I will take responsibility for my fault in this situation. While checking car-parts.com for a rear axle for a vehicle, it showed they had 4 available for what I needed. It was listed on that website as 0 miles, and was $1,450. The next one listed was labeled as 127,000 miles and cost $710.90. The combination of 0 miles on the listing (not blank, which I have seen before, but 0) and being twice as much as a clearly used unit, led us to believe we were getting a remanufactured unit. Quote was given 11/19/2025, invoice was paid 11/20/2025. At this point we were told it would be shipped out to us on Monday 11/24. I reminded him it was Thanksgiving week, and asked if this would delay our freight, and he said no. I had not received it yet by 11/28, so I reached out and was told he thought it was already shipped out, and to check back on Monday (12/1). Monday I was told it should be arriving tomorrow, 12/2. It did in fact show up on 12/2, but it was not a remanufactured unit as the 0 mileage listing led me to believe. We did not want to install a fully used unit, especially since the one we were sent looked worse than the one we removed. We reached out, and were told they would happily take it back for a $507.50 (35%) restocking fee. We took it back to his shop, and told him we would not be paying a restocking fee, as we never signed an invoice indicating that was a thing, and never agreed to any potential restocking fees before purchase. At this point, the guy dropping it off was told that the restocking fee was because he had to pay someone to remove it from a vehicle in a junkyard, and buy it from that junkyard before they sent it to us. So, the reason it's listed as 0 miles, is because the unit we got wasn't even his before we purchased it. He acquired it AFTER the purchase was complete, and they don't know how many miles the unit they are selling me is going to have until days later. He refused to give a refund for the purchase price, and only offered a refund of price paid, less credit card fees (understandable), less freight to send it to us (understandable), less restocking fees. I again told him that the restocking fee was not disclosed prior to purchase, and they do not have any signatures indicating it. He then refused to take back the part. I told him we would be disputing the charge with our card company if the refund wasn't given, and he can either take the product back at this time, or any future attempt to recover it will be at his time / expense. He still refused to take it back. We should have double checked, and been more clear that 0 mileage, and the significantly increased price meant what we assumed to be mean. That is on us. However, listing parts you don't physically have, and in an incorrect condition, and enforcing a 35% restocking fee that isn't disclosed until after the purchase is made, is also not a great way to do business. I see now why almost half the reviews are 1 star, and I wish we had seen that before going through this entire ordeal.

Jake has done a few jobs for me in the past, most recently a 68RFE on my 2011 Cummins Ram. Always has done a good job. The price, communication and professionalism are what sets Midwest apart for the other guys. Will use them again!!
