I was visiting Torrance as a tourist from The Netherlands. On May 4th my rental vehicle (Black GMC, California license plate 9LST682) was illegally removed from a deserted parking lot behind the Marriott Hotel in Torrance. Thorough investigation proved that no visible signs were present when driving into the parking lot from the direction of Torrance Boulevard. I have attached a few pictures to prove the absence of any signs. My navigation App (Apple Maps) indicated a parking lot open 24 hours. The next morning, it was clear that my vehicle had been towed away by your organization. I was told on the phone in an unfriendly manner that I could retrieve my car after 8am from the storage located on 17th street in Long Beach, I would have to pay what I believed to have understood $ 47,50. I was addressed from behind a closed gate (I was unable to see the person behind the gate) and was forced to sign the bottom of a document without knowing the content. Furthermore the backside of a payment terminal was shoved through an opening with the message to tap the credit card or else I would not get my car back. I payed without knowing the amount because I was too scared to lose a rental car. Basically me and my car were taken hostage by your organization and it is understandable that I would cooperate and do whatever necessary to get the car back. The payable amount remained unclear. The whole process was unfriendly, aggressive and at some point clearly hostile. Later I found out that I had been charged for the ridiculous amount of $ 498,75 which is an absolute ripoff and under no circumstances a legit amount to charge a customer for this action. The whole event not only disrupted my plans but also raised concerns about the quality control and customer care standards at your organization.
