I brought my truck in for a power steering issue and was charged $90 just for diagnosis, which resulted in being told the power steering pressure hose was leaking, something that is visually obvious and easily accessible on this truck. I was then quoted around $500 for the repair. I was told the hose alone would cost about $180. After being given the exact part number, I found the same hose available for $110 at NAPA and as low as $57 online for the OEM GM part. That’s a 60%+ markup on the part, and that’s before labor. It’s also common knowledge that repair shops typically purchase parts at wholesale pricing, not retail, which makes the quoted part price even harder to justify. On top of that, the labor charge was excessive for a job that is relatively straightforward and not difficult to access on this vehicle. I don’t mind paying fair prices for honest work, but this estimate felt heavily inflated across the board, parts, labor, and diagnostics. I strongly recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to repairs here.
