Unfortunate and disappointing experience with Downtown Autobody. Another driver hit my vehicle in December, and their insurance agreed to work with me directly on a settlement. I brought my car to Downtown Autobody to obtain an estimate for repairs. Martin was professional, patient, and thorough. He answered my questions and provided a written estimate of $3,625, which I then submitted to the insurance company. Shortly after the car accident, I sustained a work-related back injury and am now undergoing ongoing medical appointments and spinal treatments. Because I cannot be without reliable transportation during this time, I chose a cash settlement rather than having the car repaired immediately. At the time of the estimate, I was told that courtesy cars were handled through Enterprise and insurance, but since this was the other driver’s insurance, coordinating that added complexity I simply could not manage while dealing with a serious injury. After several days of back and forth, Downtown Autobody submitted an estimate to the insurance company on 2/2—for $3,353, roughly $270 less than the estimate I was given. No explanation was offered beforehand. When I called to ask about the discrepancy, my interaction with Mike was deeply unprofessional. He was dismissive and argumentative, accused me of having no intention of repairing my car simply because I opted for a cash settlement, and implied that I had wasted his time. He also alleged (incorrectly) that I planned to take the car to another shop, which was never stated nor implied. If this had been a “cash grab,” I would not have waited over a month and a half while navigating an injury, insurance pressure, and repeated delays just to obtain an estimate. I understand businesses need to protect their time, but professionalism, transparency, and basic respect shouldn’t change just because a customer chooses a settlement option that is legally available. This experience added unnecessary stress during an already difficult medical situation, and now, I do in fact intend to get my car repaired elsewhere. Supporting photos attached.
