I’ve been taking all my scrap metal to Saginaw Recycling for a good while now usually once a week on average, some months it ends up being three trips over a two week period. At any rate, I’ve been there and dealt with the people who work there more than a few times and have always been treated right, had a pleasant experience and always left there feeling like I was done fairly. I’ve been to quite a few scrap yards over the years in Birmingham alone from a few in Bessemer to Finley Blvd. to several just east of town and will always drive out of my way if I have to and go to Saginaw Recycling instead. Anyone who scraps or has scrapped various metals knows it’s very easy for the yard to take advantage of the situation and refuse to pay what you’re really owed for what type metal you actually have. Or pay you much less because you didn’t strip everything down and separate everything exclusively to their liking. I never get that feeling of being taken advantage of from Saginaw Recycling and never worry about getting cheated when I go there. These are just a few of the reasons they acquired my repeat business and I’m quite sure other people in the same situation feel the same way and use them on a regular basis just as I do.

I’ve been going here for years both to sell scraps and to buy scrap iron for welding projects. The staff have always been courteous to me, but then, I’m always courteous to them too. Sure, you can get your shoes dirty there, but it’s an outdoor scrap yard. Wear boots, Karen. On days there’s only 2 or 3 people working - one at the counter, one driving heavy equipment, and one cleaning copper - you’ll have to load or unload by yourself. But then, you got the scraps in your truck by yourself to get there and you happily check yourself out at Walmart so no harm done, right?I recommend this place regularly to my buddies looking for welding material. I’ve bought trailers to rebuild, car parts and gears for art and outdoor furniture projects, leaf springs for blacksmithing, it’s a gold mine for industrial artists. This place caters to blue collar workers disposing of project material. It’s exactly what you’d reasonably expect. There’s no valet service or free coffee in a cushy lobby, just weigh your scraps, unload, drive back on the scale, get paid, and get back to work.

By far the worst customer service I’ve ever dealt with in my life and on top of that I had to Load and unload all my stuff on and off the scales by myself. Then they attempted to cheat me out of a few dollars by writing down the wrong thing. And worst of all is there prices, I could’ve gone 15 miles up the road and made $67 more. Will never go there again and I would be surprised if they even have return customers it was that bad. Do you think with horrible prices they would at least have good customer service but their prices and customer service run hand-in-hand. Worst place ever.

All I know is I am so very thankful these are honest people. I left my wallet on the counter with $900 in it and did not realize until hours later. When I came back they had the wallet and returned it to me with all the money still there.

I have to agree with one of the other posts. The lady at the front is rude. Didn't even say hello. Asked me what do you need? I was just told go on the scale wait buzzer, go dump ,get back on scale. So I go to dump my stuff try and wave some girl down. She ignores me. Then I find a place to get my truck into some guy in an excavator start yelling for me to back my truck in a mud hole. I tried to ask him if I could put it in the bucket of his excavator he just yells just leave it nevermind. Go back to the front she hands you your money through the window box. Tells you your amount and turns her back to the window. Southern kindness is not at this place. I could of just paid Lowe's 15 dollars to pick this stuff u and been better off. I was going to ask about getting some propane from her. But obviously she don't need my business. I won't be back. I don't see how you stay in business. Best of luck to you

They wanted to give me $7.50 for a Aluminuum Wheel even though scrap Aluminum goes for $.50 a pound with a 60 pound wheel....that didn't matter to them. I said that I have aluminum radiators that I want to scrap as well and she would give me $.30 a pound. I asked I thought Aluminum was $.50 a pound she said that everywhere else it might be LOL....what a bunch of thieves. I'll just go to Birmingham, no problem. The lady at the front is rude by the way they'll never get my business

After multiple trips to the recycling facility I notice the amount of money paid for similar size loads had decreased consistently. During my last visit I discovered a sign in the window, saying prices may be changed at their discretion. The staff acts as though it is a burden to answer questions, or provide any kind of assistance.

Terrible idea going here go to Birmingham the scrap prices at this place are ridiculous. I thought scrap yards were supposed to weigh what you bring in and give you cash depending on the weight of the scrap. A flat rate of 7 bucks per aluminium rim is crazy to me do not go to this place you'll regret it
